The aim of this article is to develop theory and generate knowledge about the challenges possibilities co‐producing change in a social housing programme. purpose project was implement Housing First philosophy programme city Helsingborg, Sweden. also create opportunities for service user involvement. Several innovative measures were implemented order these changes occur from autumn 2016 summer 2017. services commissioned university course on which workers their clients studied together equal terms plans further development own workplace. A “Future” workshop held by researchers with representatives all different options (the shelter, transitional housing, category apartments), both workers. Repeated dialogue meetings conducted at discuss how involvement could be developed discover new ways participation. This based strengths‐based perspective using theoretical discussions traps, as well concepts enabling entrapping niches. We show importance identifying supporting missing heroes—service users who want participate involved change. that if an organisation not prepared initiated changes, there risk disappointment due awakened expectations are fulfilled. Building trust important component emerge material, but we found processes can continue have impact beyond initial project’s goals.
